What to expect when working with a professional organizer

Why should you hire a professional organizer?

Getting organized is a fantastic investment in yourself and your space. A well designed and well organized space can save time, reduce stress levels, and increase peace of mind - all things that make your life easier!

There are many benefits to hiring a professional organizer. At Settled In Soundly we consider the top reasons to be:

  • We find solutions clients may not think of on their own. With our design experience and degrees in architecture and engineering, we see space in a different way. We love proposing creative solutions.

  • We have expertise in selecting organizing products and designing spaces. We genuinely enjoy testing out new products in our TestLab and we only recommend products in which we are confident.

  • We are local to Austin and can suggest personalized resources to help unwanted items find new homes where they’ll be used by someone in need. If you have a cause that's important to you, we'd love to suggest local charities that would benefit from item donations.

What does a professional organizer do?

We offer several services, our most popular being the home organizing and unpacking services. For home organization services, we help declutter and design your space so it better suits your lifestyle. This process involves sorting through items, helping you decide which items to keep and where to put them, and recommending organizing products. We can also provide custom drawings of these spaces to help you visualize what it will look like when we're finished. Common requests for home organization services include kitchen and pantry organization, closet organization, and kids playroom organization.

For our unpacking services we help homeowners settle in soundly by unpacking boxes and finding new homes for items in drawers, cabinets, and shelving. This process involves setting up rooms for immediate use. Once we understand how clients wish to use a space, we typically work largely on our own to get it set up.

What is it like to work with a professional organizer?

Below we take you through the process of working with a professional organizer and what you can expect at each stage of the home organization process. There are a few key items to remember throughout:

  • We provide suggestions based on our previous experience and best practices, but we can always customize a solution for the client. Please don’t be shy about asking to make tweaks or changes to our ideas. We want to make your life easier.

  • As the client, you are the decision-making authority. You get to decide what to keep and what to discard. It’s your space to live in and enjoy.

  • We’re not judging you for anything. We know the organizing process is very personal and at times you may feel vulnerable. Rest assured we keep all client information 100% confidential.

The first step in all of our home organization services is the initial in-person consultation. We use this time to walk through the spaces you'd like organized and learn about how you use them. We know it may be tempting to tidy up before we visit, but please don't! Seeing how spaces are currently used helps us propose suitable and sustainable solutions.

We listen to your goals for our work together and how involved you'd like to be in the organizing process. If you’re looking for ideas and inspiration, we develop an action plan and hand it over to you to implement! If you'd prefer a partner for the process, we outline a proposed package of hours and set up our first home organizing session to get started.

And remember: we’re not judging you for anything. We are here to support you!
